Verbal ability is a highly overrated thing in a guy, and it’s our pathetic need for it that gets us into so much trouble.

Feelings, Whoa, Whoa, Feelings!

Credo of a Boomer Buddy:

Life is often more about CONTROL than FEELINGS!

Take Yogi Berra, for instance: “I don't get upset over things I can control, because if I can control them there's no sense in getting upset. And I don't get upset over things I can't control, because if I can't control them there's no sense in getting upset.”

Credo of a Boomer Babe

Life is often more about FEELINGS than CONTROL

Take writer Gloria Naylor, for instance: “I don’t believe that life is supposed to make you feel good, or to make you feel miserable either. Life is just supposed to make you feel.”

Many aging women love to talk; many aging men, when it comes to talk, balk. Verbal sharing for an an aging female is as easy and necessary as breathing. For many aging males, the language of feelings is like a second language, a language that leaves them tongue-tied and literally at a loss for words!

According to Psychology Today, research neuropsychologist Dr. Gregory Jantz has discovered that, “females tend to have verbal centers on both sides of the brain, while males tend to have verbal centers on only the left hemisphere… [Males] have less connectivity between their word centers and their memories or feelings… [Males tend] to move on to the next task… rather than analyze their feelings at all.”

In questioning women about this research finding, the Women’s Truth Foundation (WTF) survey reports that:

33% of Aging Females say, “Vive la difference,”
33% say, “C’est la vie,”
33% say, “Duh,” and
100% roll on the floor laughing at such an obvious truth.

In questioning men about this research finding, the WTF survey reports that:

100% of Aging Males say, “    .”  NOTHING, of course!

Just check out these “feeling talks’ in real life with Mabel & John and Sonja & Dave…

Mabel: “That was an intense movie. It was so scary toward the end. I cried and cried when Kira’s character died. What a great tearjerker. And the costumes were so interesting. What did you think of the movie?”

John: “Good action. Good plot.”

Mabel: “How did you feel about the movie?”

John: “Well, those seats weren’t so comfortable. My back hurts. Now, where should we go for a drink?”

Sonja and Dave sat down for couch talk.

Sonja: “How are you feeling?”

Dave: “I don’t know.”

Sonja: “Really?”

Dave: “I guess my butt itches. What’s for dinner?”

With mucho feeling,

Irene
